THE MACHINE
The Royal Parade is a cheerful little contradiction: bright, compact, and inviting at first glance, yet unexpectedly solid once your hands meet the keyboard. Royal even attached a badge to the rear proclaiming its "Rugged Royal — All-Metal Structural Design," and this powder-blue example still wears that wonderfully earnest declaration with pride.
Built in Holland, the Parade belongs to Royal's family of compact European portables. Its sculpted blue metal body, pale keys and controls, burgundy Royal badge, and matching blue paper table create a particularly complete mid-century presentation. It is small enough for an apartment, dormitory, or writing desk, yet feels considerably more substantial than the lightweight plastic machines that would soon follow.

BENCH NOTES
This machine has been cleaned to the point of functionality, mechanically inspected, and tested here at The Typewriter Mechanic. The principal writing, carriage, paper-handling, margin, ribbon, and tabulator functions were operating properly at the time of listing. A new ribbon will be installed before shipment.
The platen remains somewhat rubbery rather than hard or glossy. Paper feeds properly, and the remaining resilience gives the machine a more agreeable sound and feel than many unrestored portables of similar age.

TYPING FEEL
The Parade has a nimble, pleasantly responsive action that makes it easy to settle into a comfortable rhythm. Its carriage shift is notably light, avoiding the heavier feel sometimes associated with this family of machines, and the overall experience is relaxed rather than demanding. It is an inviting little writer that rewards an easy touch.

CONDITION
Cosmetically, this is an attractive and honest vintage survivor. The powder-blue finish remains vivid and displays beautifully, with scattered scratches, small paint losses, edge wear, and handling marks visible around the lower front lip, shell edges, carriage area, and other exposed points. The pale keys and controls show expected signs of age and use, but nothing overwhelms the machine's cheerful presentation.
The carriage-return lever retains its molded covering, which appears consistent with the original design. It shows honest wear but remains present and functional.

Included with the sale are the Royal Parade typewriter, its original fitted carrying case, and a new ribbon.
The original case remains fully functional. Both latches and the handle work properly, the machine seats securely inside, and there is no notable storage odor. The black exterior shows scuffs, marks, hardware wear, and several small punctures or impressions. Inside, the pale lining exhibits staining, looseness, and deterioration around portions of its perimeter, particularly near one upper corner. It remains a useful companion for storage and transport, though it has clearly seen more years of service than the machine itself.
