OLIVETTI STUDIO 45
Barcelona, Spain • Turquoise Finish • Matching Hard Case
----------------------------------------
THE MACHINE
The Olivetti Studio 45 occupies a particularly appealing place in the Olivetti family. Larger and more planted than the celebrated Lettera portables, it remains lighter, brighter, and more playful than a traditional office standard. It was built for someone who wanted a serious writing machine without sacrificing the color, clarity, and unmistakable design language that made Olivetti unlike anyone else.
This Barcelona-built example is finished in an unusually vivid turquoise blue, paired with black keys, a bright red tab key, and its original matching molded carrying case. The color has remarkable presence in person, shifting somewhere between deep aqua and swimming-pool blue as the light changes.
The machine was manufactured at Olivetti's Barcelona plant, as confirmed by the original rear identification label. It also retains a period dealer decal from Chuck Rodgers Office Equipment Company on San Andres Street—a small piece of its working history that I have intentionally left in place.
----------------------------------------
BENCH NOTES
This machine has been cleaned to the point of functionality, mechanically inspected, and tested here at The Typewriter Mechanic. The principal writing, carriage, paper-handling, ribbon, margin, and tabulator functions were operating properly at the time of listing. A new ribbon will be installed before shipment, or included separately upon request. Black, blue, or red-and-black are available.
The platen is somewhat firm with age, though it is not glossy or heavily glazed. Paper feeds properly, and—as with most vintage typewriters of this era—a backing sheet is recommended for a slightly softer feel and reduced typing noise.
----------------------------------------
TYPING FEEL
The typing experience is classic Olivetti: light, easy, and responsive, with a relatively short stroke and very little sense of fighting the mechanism. Although more substantial than a Lettera, the Studio 45 never feels cumbersome. It strikes a satisfying balance between portability and desk stability, making it a comfortable companion for extended writing sessions.
----------------------------------------
CONDITION
The turquoise finish remains bright and highly attractive, with scattered light marks, fine scratches, dust, and the ordinary signs of decades of careful use, particularly around the front shell, ribbon cover, and keyboard area. These are visible in the photographs but do little to diminish the machine's striking overall presentation.
The original badges, controls, carriage hardware, paper support, and trim remain present. Please examine the photographs carefully, as they form part of the condition description.
----------------------------------------
INCLUDED
Included with the sale are the Olivetti Studio 45, its matching molded carrying case, the original paper support, and a new ribbon in your choice of black, blue, or red-and-black.
The matching hard case shows expected scuffs, surface wear, and small storage marks while remaining structurally solid and an excellent visual match for the machine. There is a hairline crack near one shoulder that does not appear to affect the integrity of the case. The handle and metal closure hardware remain present and functional, and the machine fits securely inside.
----------------------------------------
WHO IT'S FOR
The Studio 45 is an excellent choice for anyone who enjoys the famously light Olivetti touch but prefers a machine with a little more substance beneath the hands. It is especially well suited to journalists, letter writers, authors, and anyone who appreciates thoughtful industrial design as much as the writing itself.
----------------------------------------

Buyer-paid UPS shipping. The machine will be immobilized, packed with serious care for modern parcel shipping, and fully insured.
----------------------------------------
Please read before purchase: This is a vintage mechanical typewriter, carefully tested and described according to its condition before shipment. It will be packed with serious care and fully insured. Because these machines are often 50–100 years old, minor adjustment may occasionally be needed after transit, even when properly packed. Slight alignment variance, ribbon behavior, or small mechanical quirks can be part of vintage typewriter ownership. Please review the photos and condition notes closely, and feel free to ask questions before purchase.
