Put a line on paper with this Adler Gabriele 35 and the machine gives itself away immediately. Instead of the familiar curves and serifs of ordinary typewriter pica, the letters arrive square, geometric, and unmistakably modern — something closer to a technical drawing, a modernist poster, or the title sequence of a seventies science-fiction film.
That is because this Gabriele carries Adler’s distinctive 085 Cubic typeface, often described by collectors simply as a “techno” face. It changes the personality of the machine completely. A capable West German portable becomes something considerably stranger, sharper, and harder to replace.
Add the international keyboard, handsome dark bodywork, pale keys, and fitted carrying case, and this becomes much more than another useful Gabriele. It is a genuinely interesting writing machine — one whose character survives all the way from the keyboard to the finished page.

The Gabriele 35 belongs to Adler’s later generation of portable manual typewriters: substantial enough to feel like a proper writing instrument, but compact enough to travel in its fitted case. Its broad, low profile and clean controls belong unmistakably to the later twentieth century, when European typewriter design was becoming more architectural and less ornamental.
It is a practical machine first — built for correspondence, manuscripts, notes, and regular desk work — but this example matters because one uncommon factory choice gives an otherwise familiar portable an entirely different voice.
The Detail That Changes Everything
085 CUBIC TYPEFACE
The type slugs identify this machine as carrying Adler’s 085 Cubic face. Rather than conventional serifed pica, Cubic uses squared, strongly geometric letterforms with a distinctly technical and modern appearance.
Alternate typefaces are one of the great pleasures of mechanical typewriters because they change more than appearance. They change the character of the page itself. Cubic can make an ordinary letter look designed. Headings become graphic. Notes begin to resemble labels from an old laboratory instrument. Even a grocery list acquires suspiciously futuristic authority.

BENCH NOTES
This machine has been prepared for sale and tested through normal typing, with its principal writing functions operating properly before shipment. The keyboard, carriage, paper feed, spacing, and ribbon system have been evaluated in ordinary use. A ribbon is included with purchase.
AT THE KEYBOARD
The Gabriele has the composed, deliberate feel of a later German portable. The stroke is positive without being ponderous, and the machine encourages a steady writing rhythm rather than an especially aggressive touch.
The result is a machine that remains perfectly suitable for real writing while still offering the visual novelty collectors usually have to sacrifice practicality to obtain. This would make an especially good fit for correspondence, journaling, creative writing, design work, or a collector who intends to keep actually using the machine.
COSMETIC CONDITION
This is a particularly attractive Gabriele. The dark exterior finish retains strong color and sheen, while the light keytops provide a crisp contrast against the body. The Adler and Gabriele markings remain clear, and the machine presents very handsomely from normal viewing distance.
As with any vintage machine, there are small signs of age and handling visible on close inspection. I have photographed the typewriter closely rather than attempting to hide those details. Please use the photographs as an important part of the condition description.
